This Earth Day, support our friends in Nicaragua who live with the effects of climate change

An informative and challenging article compiled from interviews with technicians in Esquipulas working with the Nutrition and Organic Vegetables projects.  "To our family members in Nicaragua, climate change is not about the future.  The effects are being felt right now.  To learn more about the realities of climate change, and understand how Friends of Esquipulas can stand in solidarity with our Nicaraguan family, seven farmers shared their current observations, their fears and hopes for the future, and their ideas about how to best combat the effects of a changing climate."

Friends of Esquipulas is a non-profit organization in Louisville, Kentucky which is organized to support the Sister Parish Relationship between the communities of St. William in Louisville and Our Lord of Esquipulas in Nicaragua, as well as the work of the Developing Communities organization in Esquipulas.  

The parish of Our Lord of Esquipulas is located in the Matagalpa Diocese of Nicaragua, in the northern highlands. The parish itself has over 33 separate communities within a radius of 20 miles from the urban center of Esquipulas; 23 of these communities have chapels as shown in the map below.
